Dong Bang Shin Ki Hero JaeJoong shocked netizens with his views on the United States Forces Korea (USFK).
JaeJoong was receiving the interview from ‘GQ’ February edition recently when he said, “I like to read the news, I’m a fan of JoongAng Daily news. I know the newspaper well to recognise its paper quality and penmanship.”
JaeJoong then answered upon being asked a question about the article which was most impressionable to him,”There were talks about how Kim Jong Il was ill and was not even aware of the war going on. Until then, I thought I always dislike the idea of the American forces in Korea, but that day after reading that piece of news, I thought I supported them a little. If there will be a war, they will be on our side.”
Then he was posed the question, ” If there is going to be a war, will there be nothing for us to do?” JaeJoong replied, “Just directly go and fight it. We will do a consolation performance for sure. Such questions are difficult question. But if I ever say anything wrong, I will receive my criticisms. I will go and serve my military services.”
With such an interview, netizens have also expressed their thoughts about it. Some of them agreed on the part about the USFK and some disagreed with their own criticisms.
One netizen said, “With the American forces stationed in Korea, at the strategic position in East Asia, it is worrying that JaeJoong is not giving a thought to how he will influence the fans who looked up to him by saying such things.”
Wow.. Sensitive issue there..
It seems that celebrities can’t voice their views on politics.. Ever the more these days

I love your JJ, you’re so adorable.
What’s wrong with expressing his opinions? Jaejoong hwaiting!
Hi!
Jaejoong shi,
I am afraid because H1 N1 disease is diffuse in your country.
So, be careful yourself.
Hi!
Jaejoong shi,
I love you.
I likes to love.
I like you.
He didn’t really say nothing particulary dangerous -.- more or less “well I don’t really support them but maybe they are cool guys but I don’t know. I will join the mitilitary service anyway” nothing offensive, nothing spicy. He stayed in the neutral and safe line. If netizens went crazy about that they are really boring, because it was a spectacular non-opinion
At least os good to know that Jae have time to read the newspapers
i hope hero will do the best and be honest…i will love u forever and never i will be your fan..ok..hero faighting!!!
I don’t see what he said wrong O.O;;;
Basically he said he feels a bit safer with them and would do join the army anyway to fight if ever needed…
What the netizens dont’t want him to fight for his country?
I hate politics >.<;;;
i agree with jrockismypassion. what’s so wrong about what he said? i know that it’s a sensitive issue because he has fans and some of them might disagree with him. why are netizens and korean entertainment so harsh? i feel bad for him.
Koreans need to be thankful that the U.S is protecting them,if it wasnt for them then South Korea would have been destroyed a long time ago.No one wants to mess with the U.S military since its the most powerful in the world,he should watch what he says and educate himself.
I’m truthfully proud that Jaejoong voice out his opinion. Netizens are exaggerating, as usual. Pushing aside the idol status, he can have his own opinion, too.
Agreed with phatasm24.
man he can say whatever he wants dont see what he said that was soo wrong
I couldn’t help but nod my head in fervent agreement with bangbang. As much as i’m intrigued with politics i don’t think here is the best place to discuss about it. And yes i agree with luna1427 [:
The issue shouldn’t be a controversy. He basically said what he believed and it didn’t hurt anyone. The only reason I’m here is because WordPress put this post as one of the top posts. Goes to show that people in droves pay attention to inconsequential issues…just my fortune I’m here today.
Enjoy the “huge” controversy…
pardon my ignorance at this subject, but i don’t understand what he said that could have caused this controversy?
then i asked my korean friend and she explained that many (mainly the younger generation) strongly are against US troops in korea.
so i guess i can understand a little bit of the outcry when jaejoong said he supported ‘ A LITTLE’ the fact US troops are there.
but i think he placated the people who don’t support by saying that he will enlist and fulfill his duty as a korean.
as much as politics intrigues me, the fangirl of DBSK makes me wonder what SM Entertainment will do to jaejoong for causing this so-called controversy given SM entertainment’s rumoured reputation with treating their artistes ‘abusively’
i like how he said he’d take responsibility for his criticism
way to go Jaejoong.
talking about politics
Obama is now in the white house as our commander in chief!!!!!!!!!!!! =] ahhhh fangirl
You guys are so ignorant. Go open some history books and read some newspapers before you spout nonsense. All you guys are good at is fangirling…should be ashamed how little you guys know of the rest of the world. GO EDUCATE YOURSELVES.
What the hell, I wish the US troops never got there in the first place and let North Korea took ‘em.
Yeah it is good to here from celebrities.
Well something’s gotta be done with north korea!
the U.S. originally stayed there because they didn’t want the spread of communism and honestly it can’t have had a bad effect on South Korea.
North Korea isn’t even a communist regime anymore, it’s some military monarchy despite what anyone else says.
and JJ knows that he has influence over people, he has every right to say what he wants, because with situations like that, ppl deserve to know didn’t perspectives.
I luv this news.
It’s great to see some Kpop Idol have enough guts to voice their own views on sth else besides how much they luv the fans and what dose they think about the new album’s concept.
May be it will broaden the Korean netizens’ views on society and politic.
Well done JJ!!
tvxq&sujulove : Jaejoong will eventually go for the army training and if he doesn’t, the entire korean nation will go crazy. I want him to go anyways..he’s a korean man..he has to go.
Jaejoong’s careless with this statement. Nothing wrong with voicing your opinion but the netizens are ready to rip “him” apart…if u know what i mean. :p
i swear they’re getting picky these days now that they’re one of top singers. but like jaejoong is a person too. they should even just be happy bout the fact that he even reads their news paper. its obvious that all members and other real famous stars have opinions like that. no one wants jaejoong to go to military service. like wtf.
and looks like to me that journalists is more into the interviews and watching more video clips bout them then all the cassies. -_-
PUHLEASE!
I am sorry but I think every country should have its own force in its own country…thank God bush left or next thing you know he would attack Korea too although he is most interested in north not south but whatever…
politics aside…It’s courageous to voice opion like that I think and since it’s jaejoong I know people will forgive him as they always do lol
ugh stupid netizens, sure he is a role model, but he is human too D: he can have his own opinions like anyone
although i don’t know much about the korean war, but he has a good reason to believe it was good, right
i think it’s the netizens that should be aware of what they say, not jaejoong.. he even explained why he thought so -__-“
and it’s joongie for god sake XD <3
oo… very sensitive..
