Another add to the plagiarism list: Bada with ‘Mad’?

bada_290809

This is nothing new. Bada’s comeback 4th album title song ‘Mad’ has been accused of plagiarism.

On a community online site ‘Sha*’, some netizens have pointed out the part of the song ‘I’m mad~’ sounds similar to singer Rozalla’s ‘Everyone’s Free’.

The netizens explained , “This English can be heard in bars and clubs in other countries.” The song is sang by pop singer Rozalla, who promotes in both America and England, with the song ‘Everyone’s Free’ released in 1991 under the genre of ‘Synth Pop’ popular in Korean clubs for its remix version too.

And netizens are saying that the ‘I’m mad~’ part of ‘Mad’ sounds very similar to ‘Everybody’s free’ in the other song.

But there is also a rational part of the netziens population who refuted that the song sounds nowhere similar to ‘Everybody’s free’ when you listen to the whole song.

There has been so much talk about plagiarism in the Kpop zone this year, many netizens also voiced on online forum that they are losing confidence in the music made by their own kind.

We have the recent case of GDragon‘s ‘Heartbreaker’ said to have plagiarised that of ‘Right Round’ by Flo Rida.

Here’s a compilation of all the plagiarism accusations made against Kpop singers this year:

  • Son DamBi - Saturday Night
FANCY – For One Night In Heaven
  • 2PM - Again & Again
    Envy – shawty dangerous
  • So Nyeo Shi Dae – Gee
Mylene Farmer – Sans Contrefacon (Remix)
  • Wax – Finally You
Kelly Clarkson – My Life would suck without you
  • FT Island – Bing Bing Bing
Mcfly – Five Colours in her hair
  • FT Island - Angel and Woodman
    Jason Mraz – Live High
  • Future Liger (Yoo JaeSeok, Tiger JK, Yoon MiRae) – LET’S DANCE
Technotronic – Get Up! (Before The Night Is Over)
  • Davichi - 8282
    MIKA – Happy Ending
  • YounHa- 1,2,3
    Jackson 5 – ABC
  • GDragon – Heartbreaker
    Flo Rida – Right Round
  • Bada - Mad
    Rozalla – Everybody’s Free

IMO music is such an intangible thing.. To rule it plagiarism when there are familiarity and similarities everytime, music will just simply die..

  1. Umm Bada’s song Mad sounds nothing like Rozalla’s song -.-” Just because they both hold a note, doesn’t mean that it’s the same. The music is totally different >__< But I do agree that a lot of K-pop artists are kinda cutting it close :S I've heard one too many songs that sound a lot like others artists' songs and it just makes me kinda iffy on wanting to listen to that K-pop artist. Like the others said, it's one thing for it to sound similar, but a lot of the songs, they practically just changed it into their own language but kept most of the original beat -.-" Yes, it is good to support your own artists, but no, it's not okay to take other artists' music and make money off of it :\

I listen to a lot of music from all different countries and genres, and I do find that K-pop artists do it more often than others (not trying to be mean or anything) cause I do love some K-pop, just I've come to listen to only a few now because I find that their music isn't original anymore :\ heck most of the can't even sing live well and lipsync -.-" and that's just not K-pop artists' but around the world..

A real artist would at least try to make their own music and sing live and improve upon those qualities which make a true artist a singer. Hopefully people will smarten up..

  2. there are more kpop songs (released the past few years) than in that youtube vid where similarities to foreign songs can be found……and yet, GD is the only one constantly being hounded given a hard time for supposed “plagiarism”.

see how biased ppl are when it comes to him? even some readers here too.
seriously, im not even a fan, but the GD hate is just ridiculous.

  3. Whether or not the songs are plagerised or not is hard to tell for me, but what it does say about Korean producers/composers and so on is that they lack total creativity…. It’s really sad how many songs are created by “sampling”…It’s okay once or twice but its done too often in KPop which is disappointing. It’s ok to be inspired by an idea or concept, but inspiration doesn’t mean taking a whole or part of a song that is someone elses’s creation and changing it up a bit to fit you.
    What happened to originality?

  4. They’re overreacting and always trying to shame people when really they are the shameful…or shameless ones.

  5. LMAO wow are these netziens kidding? That small part? To me it sounds like she’s singing in hindu maybe India should sue her >> I agree with universe..

  6. tsk tsk the bada stuff i dont really hear it much but those other songs. tsk tsk they should be ashame.

  7. I’m not even gonna bother reading this artical just wanted to say that this crap is getting ridiculous…do they even know wha tthe word PLAGARISM mean? it’s like thrown out there so much that even if an artist really plagarized nobody word give a sh@t about it. sorry for my use of words but man! it’s just plain stupid!

    Stupid i say!

ok i need to calm down now….(just breathe)

  8. korean netizens should start supporting their own country’s music and stop complaining

  9. Sometimes ppl may not know that that artist may have gotten permission to use whatever implied.

  10. I think Im gonna agree with the netizens. yeah, some some songs are really similar and I was kinda dissapoint w/ that issue and defintely korean songs are obvious but Im still lovin it, just some.

  11. omfg..
    so sad..
i dont know whose side to take?
i didnt know even GEE was said to be
    plagarized??? and saturday night???

    =.=” scary korean netizens…

  12. I feel kind of disappointed in finding out that most of the songs that I like are plagiarized but I don’t think Mad is plagiarized b/c it doesn’t sound like everybody free

  13. ALOT of artists, koreans, americans, etc “sample” also known as plagiarism when you don’t get permission to actually do it. Koreans have become too obvious in their “sampling” of music and netizens are right to complain. It basically discredits kpop artists as actual musicians and makes them look uncreative. So if your favorite artist is doing this, fans shouldn’t enable them by justifying their actions. Give them criticism and allow them the opportunity to make some great kpop not copy-pop.

    • I totally agree with u in everything u said

    • Very well said, DUMBO!! I’ve listened to all these Ksongs and their claimed-to-be originals and gotta admit that there’re huge similarities between them!!!! We love our idols, we love our artists, but it doesn’t mean that fans should get all offensive and stand up for the artists despite all these facts. They sound so much alike, and if you have ears and not deaf, then you can totally tell! Fans should stand on something right for their idols’ own sake, rather than supporting them blindly and agreeing on whatever they do!

  14. Shouldn’t plagiarism disputes be handled between the 2 companies? If there are such cases, then let them settle by themselves.
furthermore, I think netizens should stay out of this whole plag-gy issues and refrain from making ‘too many” mountains out of a molehill.

  15. This post just remind me how great was that song, I mean “Everyone’s Free” of course :-)

  16. Cry “wolf” one too many times and people will stop believing you. It’s become overused, so much that whether or not it is plagiarism I don’t even pay attention anymore.

To simply refute a bar in a whole song that may result as plagiarism is pretty darn stupid, not to mention narrow-minded. As global and international music is these days, it’s inevitable that melodies and tunes will start to run into each other and meet similarities. Just because artists draw inspiration from different cultures (east asian on western and vice versa), doesn’t indicate a plagiarized piece of material.

Beats are universal, not to mention simple. A small hook is the same. Using it in several different songs by different people can’t be surprising.

  17. Knetizens need to remember that plagiarism is not to be thrown around like it’s such a casual word. Can’t these people think that accusing someone of plagiarism is accusing someone of a CRIME?

Plagiarism is such a sensitive subject. I prefer to enjoy my kmusic instead. ^^

    • but u cant deny what the Knetizens is saying is true and they have every right to be upset b/c they just found out that there artists are not original and just copy from western artists

  18. I agree on this Bada one… it doesn’t really sound like Everybody’s Free.

A lot of the other ones are pretty o_O though :(

I don’t know why nobody ever wanted to report my discovery of IU and Debbie Gibson.

Check this out – you can sing IU’s Boo to it perfectly.

  19. I think before they call it that they should look at both music sheets and credits.

  20. i thought younha 1,2,3 took sample of Michael Jackson ABC?

  21. i just got confused by reading this article netizens should get a life instead of pointing this and that. i feel bad for those artist.
idk if the listeners would notice this those songs r a hit in korea anyway.
some songs is just similar they should learn to diversify between inspired n plagiarizing.

  22. speechless…k-netizen do hv time to search n investigate..oh man…
