Who is the most popular South Korea singer in the Philippines ?
On Nov 15, an online site ‘Philstar.com’ has wrote a topic about how the Korean songs has invaded the Philippines by giving 8 Korean singers name that are popular among the Filipino.
Philstar,”Youtube, Korean Cable TV and music download service have made the Filipino has an easy access to their favorite Korean singers / group. There are 8 singers (groups) that’s already familiar among the Filipino, and they are : BoA, 2NE1, Bi, Wonder Girls, SS501, Super Junior, SHINee, and SNSD.”
Philstar,” The Filipino is looking forward to hear more songs from Korean singers (group).”
Meanwhile, Philstar also wrote about how 2Ne1 Sandara Park solo single ‘KISS’ from her Cass Beer CF promotion with Lee Minho is also getting the Filipino’s attention and how “Nobody” song from the Wonder Girls is also a hit there.

no big bang?
I know, where’s BB? I think the main push that made kpop really popular over there, although it was quite already known but not popular, was because of Dara joining 2NE1.
of course. i love 2ne1, but honestly dara can’t sing as well as the rest of the members. sometimes i think that yg put her in just to enter the Philippines market.
dara is one of the main reasons filos luv to buy kpop i mean the girl can sing in filo, i dont think any of the other 2ne1 members can influence the filoz more. plus fhils luvs dara ( they dont call her dara btw they call her sandy i mean i prefer sandy. and dara can sing! better than some kpop bands lets not forget the latest abomination Goshiipp gurl lol.

I guess it’s no surprise dat korean artistes r gettin attention frm other asian countries..I think it’s cool..Music is universal..Any1 frm anywhere can enjoy it even if it’s a diff language..I think Korean music r gettin huge in other asian countries s well..Like here in Singapore, more more ppl r gettin k -addict 2..Looks like de k- pop craze wil nt slow down anytime soon..4 mi,i totally dig korean groups like shinee,ft island n super junior..Their songs r catchy n i totally luv hongki’s n jonghyun’s vocals..Plus,they r sooo yummy 2..hehe.. =p
I think it was Rain who started it…oh no, I think kpop was present here and there before…I remember hearing Kiss’ [?] “because I’m a girl” song in the radio when I was in high school. I think DBSK’s quite popular, too. 2NE1 made kpop more mainstream here years later, because of Dara. As for Big Bang…I don’t really know. I mean I’m a fan of them but I haven’t heard a lot of people talking about them. Maybe in some parts of the country?
Oh yeah, BoA. I almost forgot haha. Been hearing her name years ago, but I didn’t have any idea about her back then.

Yeah Rain is super famous too. And DBSK. But Super Junior is probably the most popular commericially – they were the first korean band to get a number 1 album in the phillipines international chart. ^^

That’s kinda true, especially if you’re talking about kpop now. But years ago, I usually hear her name. Around the same time Utada Hikaru was quite getting popular. She’s Japanese I know, but yeah.

“nooo, shoot…” was my reaction. i am an addict fan of Super Junior and 2ne1, but…nooo. i hope it doesn’t last because i still like my filipino songs.
Filipinos love kdramas, as far as I have remembered when I was still back in the Philippines lovers in paris, goong, full house were the main korean dramas which really made a huge impact, from the OSTs as well as the actors too. Kpop was recognized at that time by just few however when sandara became a part of 2ne1, it seems the people get more interested on kpop and i think that was a major turn. i may say the most popular song in the philippines right now is nobody by wonder girls, the people are familiar with the song as well as the dance steps but unfortunately they cant tell which is which…2ne1 on the other hand gained its popularity basically of the song fire but also because of sandara who was once a star in the country.

from what i know Rain started it because of Full House…
and then huge amount of kpop groups entered because of Sandara…
i think today the 2 biggest groups that entered Philippines are WonderGirls and 2ne1…they are everywhere..there are lots of 2ne1 vs. wondergirls compilated pirated cd’s and radio stations always play the songs of those two groups…
idk about BoA and SS501?! if it wasn’t for Super Junior, i would never know her..
as for SNSD and Shinee, the reason why they are popular these days is because they released their CDs in the Philippines in a very cheap price, kinda like a giveaway and also the legs…
DBSK and SuJu already got (huge) fans here, they started like an underground fans and then got out in the open when Sandara revived kpop in the Philippines…
TRIPLE S Philippines was established in 2007 actually while ELF Phil just celebrated 1 year.
So SS501 already has a following before.
And then BOF came, so SS501 got even more famous here. And DSP is planning to bring SS501 to have their PERSONA in Manila concert. It’s not yet sure but there is a big chance.

Those who have been following kpop way before Nobody/Sandara are probably banging their heads right now as kpop music is being bastardized by “variety shows” such as SOP and ASAP starring their no-talent artists.

YES! I know what you mean. Well kinda. I’m a Filipino living in Hawaii but my grandma watches Filipino programs 24/7 and when I hear or see people butchering the K-Pop songs I shake my head in disapproval.
Wheres Big Bang? I visited some Philippines radio site and saw it featured Big Bang as “Hot Kpop Icon”.

I’m a Filipino myself, and I honestly think Wonder Girls and 2NE1 are the most famous kpop singers currently in the country. I hear Fire, IDC and Nobody on the streets randomly.

im a filipino and i’ve been an avid kpop follower since 2006 i guess..i admit that Super Junior and Shinhwa brought me into this kpop world..i was a fan of them but now, not anymore…
i’ve heard of BOA already few years back but then im not a fan of hers either and yes Bi Rain became popular and been recognized here in the Philippines because of Full House..on the other hand, here comes Dara Park who happened to be a former celebrity here in our local showbusiness and it gives more doors for Kpop artists and their songs to invade Philippines..Koreans are no stranger to the Filipinos coz a lot of Koreans are here in the Philippines to study english and other courses..
btw, im a VIP (BIGBANG) and HOTTEST (2PM) and a SHINEE fan too…also U-KISS is growing on me…including MBLAQ & BEAST!!!!
I for once, didn’t know about Big Bang until Sandara Park, popularly known here in the Philippines as Sandy became a member of 2NE1. And since, 2NE1 easily captured my taste in music and fashion, I became curious about them and made a research on the net. There I found out that they (2NE1) was the female version of Big Bang and I was like, “Hey, Big Bang is cool!” So yeah, to make the long story short, a lot of people here haven’t learned much about Big Bang yet because they’re focusing more on 2NE1 but I, myself is reaching out to my friends and I’ve been telling them about Big Bang and they like their music too as much as they liked 2NE1’s. I’ve got to find a way to make my fellow Filipinos to appreciate not just 2NE1 but also BIG BANG and of course, the YG FAMILY!
And by the way, I once tried to look for Big Bang’s album in record stores here Cebu, and I failed. Instead, I found SNSD, Shinee, and Super Junior. I have nothing about the groups I mentioned, its just that..I badly,miserably want to buy their albums and so is 2ne1’s mini-album..And I want BB and 2NE1’s album to be available outta here..Would anyone from the Philippines tell me where can I buy some?
Me too. I wanna buy Big Bang’s albums but it seems YG hasn’t released them here, or even 2NE1’s. I wonder why though, I think 2NE1 at least will have a hot sale in the Philippine because of their popularity.
SM has already released their artist’s albums and that’s why they are the only ones available. I saw SNSD’s poster at music one in Greenbelt.
I’m a Filipino and I found out about 2NE1 because of Big Bang. =) I’ve followed Big Bang since I heard of them last year and I really thought they are great. Big Bang and Wonder Girls made me get into Kpop.
I think you can only get their albums through YGEshop or Yesasia at the moment. But I really wish YG would release their albums here!
I agree. I’m a Filipino, too. 2NE1 and Wonder Girls became popular at the same time, mainly because of Sandara being popular here. Nobody has an english version, already, so people understands and sing with it, plus they dig the Nobody moves. Super Junior became popular a bit later, and It’s you has been no. 1 several times on MYX. That’s about it on mainstream Filipinos.
But of course other K-pop groups have fans here, too (those who really follow K-pop scene). Only they haven’t been popular on mainstream yet. So yeah, K-pop invasion is growing here.

SM is doing one hell of a great thing in promoting SuJu, SHINee, and SNSD here. I see their albums in most record stores.
though i have to share, ALL albums of SS501 (they released 3 of their albums here) were SOLD OUT 2 days after the release. i should know, i was one of those who waited and hunted for CDs.
DBSK have fans here and big bang also but they’re not as active as the fans of other groups.
you also have to understand, sandara started her career here and she went back to visit when she was with 2NE1 further promoting the group.

Yeah Kpop is getting more known here in RP, i mean SM did release there albums in the biggest music Store. For mainstream and Radio play i would say the most popular by far are Wonder Girls and 2NE1.

boa? i don’t like her, but honestly she’s the first korean singer i know.i think i was in college when she sing with the boyband westlife,they sing flying without wings because that time im an avid fan of westlife……….everyday i watch myx and the famous korean singer are super junior,2ne1,girls generation,wonder girls.shinee,ss501 and bigbang…………and in if i remember in the month of october 2009 i read in the newspaper that kpop cd’s is the best seller that month according to oddessy……………..so guys you try to check in the oddessy,super junior album,girls generation album and shinee album is now really available.i saw it.
