[Highlights] 2010 Mnet 20’s Choice by Walkerhill RiverPark Swimming Pool

2010 Mnet 20’s Choice was held on 26th August at 5pm in Seoul Walkerhill Hotel RiverPark Swimming pool which saw the participation of various stars and their hot live performances.

The MCs of the night were Seo InYoung and Jo Kwon, and about 1000 over audiences were also present. And the event had seemed like a summer night poolside party. Unlike last year, Mnet 20’s Choice this year was held with the prize ceremony for the 20 most influential stars for 2010.

Yoo JaeSeok and Tiger JK for Future Liga special stage again after 1 year

Yoo JaeSeok and Tiger JK will come together again after 1 year as Future Liga.

The 2 will be coming together for a congratulatory performance on 19th August for MBC ‘Infinite Challenge WM7 Wrestling’ competition in Seoul JangChoong Stadium.

The 2 last performed last year also for the same TV program singing a duet for ‘Infinite Challenge Olympic Special’. Back then, Tiger JK’s wife Yoon MiRae also performed with them on stage. And their song ‘Let’s Dance’ even went up to the #1 spot on music charts. This time Tiger JK-Yoon Mirae couple will show off their great live performance with Yoo JaeSeok once again for the wrestling competition.

Jay Park to perform on the Korean music stage after about 1 year for Summer Week&T

Park JaeBum will be back performing on the Korean music stage after about a year for Korea’s first beach festival ‘Summer Week&T’.

JaeBum who is currently preparing for his entertainer comeback activities after signing up wit SidusHQ will be performing the song ‘Count On Me’ of his recent solo album coming 7th August for ‘Summer Week&T 2010’.

The solo album was released on 13th July and there has been great interests as to whether JaeBum will be performing the song on stage.

Research: How do we recognise idol singers these days?

How do we recognise the idols of this time?

Mnet music research centre did an investigation on 1000 male and female adults for the whole month of June. The investigation looked into the 57 singers/teams who are the most active currently in the Korean music scene in terms of vocal capabilities, appearances, amiability, talent, performance and variety.

And through the survey, it was known that other than vocal capabilities, the idols are ranked very high in all the categories. In terms of their live performances, 16 ranks out of the top 20 ranks belongs to idol singers. And in terms of appearances, the girlgroups have dominated the rankings. Of the top 10 rankings we see the names of popular girlgroups like So Nyeo Shi Dae, KARA, f(x), After School, 2NE1, T-ara, 4Minute etc.

Hiphop Singer Tiger JK Slams Racism in South Korea

[Korea Times] Popular hip-hop singer Tiger JK said he has often encountered racism in South Korea just like he did in the United States.

Appearing on the MBC nightly talk show “Mureuppak Gru” hosted by comedian Kang Ho-dong Wednesday, Tiger JK said he was shocked by racial remarks uttered by Koreans about his African American colleague rapper who came here and performs with him.

“I returned to Korea in the late 1990s for the first time in about 10 years. At that time, I heard that Korea is a nation of etiquette that welcomes everybody,” he said. “But it was not. I came across racism here too. I was often told by many Koreans not to go along with the `nigger.’ It was a shock.”

2010 – Step aside idols, it’s time for the luxurious solo singers comeback?

We saw how the idols flooded and dominated the Korean music market in 2009. A year where there were both the girlgroup and boygroup hype periods. But coming 2010, the Korean music market will take a change. With the comeback of ‘luxurious’ solo singers, it seems that the atmosphere of the Korean music scene will be different.

We are seeing the comeback of female vocal powerhouses like Lee Hyori, Yoon MiRae, YangPa, JOO; and also male crooners like Shin SeungHoon, Kim DongRyul, Yoo HeeYeol and Sung ShiKyung etc.

2010 is said to be the start of luxurious solo singers’ generation.

2AM JinWoon, “The password to the computer at our dorm is So Nyeo Shi Dae SeoHyun”

91-er singers SHINee Key, 2AM JinWoo, BEAST Son DongWoon and MBLAQ Mir have all chosen So Nyeo Shi Dae SeoHyun as the same-age celebrity they like the most.

They were recently on KBS ‘Super Junior Kiss The Radio’ show for year-end special. And the 4 of them had revealed, “If we all form a 91-er alumni association, we want to call So Nyeo Shi Dae SeoHyun to join.”

Mir said, “So Nyeo Shi Dae is the romance of all guys” while JinWoon said, “I like SeoHyun so much the password to the computer in the dorm is ‘SeoHyun‘.”
