So Nyeo Shi Dae has been chosen as Korea’s best ‘pop girl group’.
Neo Bob did a surver amongst 541 people from 10th till 28th May on ‘Which is the leading pop girlgroup for mass culture?’ and the results show So Nyeo Shi Dae at #1 with 38.2% of the votes. Groups WonderGirls and KARA are at #2 and #3 position on the survey results with 35.6% and 23.4% of the votes.
Shin JaeKyu representative of Neo Bob said, “By ‘pop girl’ we are talking about the leader of trends amongst the new generation females. Through this survey, we got to know how much of such an influence So Nyeo Shi Dae, WonderGirls and KARA have on their fans. So Nyeo Shi Dae, who is at #1, are not only leading in terms of their albums, but also in terms of vvarious genres like CF appearances and corporate sales. So Nyeo Shi Dae is representative pop girlgroup who inspires the 3040 ‘uncle’ fans.”

But when they started to wear sexy clothes, and make-up, daa.. it works! See, that’s what people/humans basically are.
When people said they have no talent, do they know talent varies? Since when talent is for singing only? and did anyone mention only 4 of them can be in the group, and otherrs can do mc-ing or acting. LOL SNSD is a group that has various talents. That’s their objective in the 1st place. When you know they’re targeted to 30-40 male fans, you should know as well, SNSD is the group made to cater singing, acting, mc-ing, variety shows, cf etc basically they’re made to cover all entertainment segment. So, yes, that’s the purpose to put members with acting TALENT, mc-ing TALENT, gag TALENT, dancing TALENT in 1 group. and yes SME is smart in designing this group, SNSD. As a result they’re everywhere, and they dominate every segment. That’s why they’re able to be no.1 They dominate all, while other group only poses one/two talents.
i only love wg, but let’s admit it in korea the top girl groups are wg and snsd! no matter how long they leave, when they come back all eyes are on them^^

YAY FOR WONSOKA! Seriously these 2007 girl groups are the best. ❤ They work so hard to open up the market for girl groups which then led to the mass debut of girl groups in 2009. WonSoKa really are the pioneering girl groups during these past few years after S.E.S/FinKL died down.

I think charisma needs a solid definition. I don’t know why being fierce, badass define being charismatic. As much as I love Big Bang because they’re talented, I don’t feel the same about 2NE1 that everyone is hyped about them and bragging their talent everywhere. Their music is fresh/new? no, they’re the same as 4Minute. I don’t feel the diff esp. the fire song.
I’m not defending SNSD here, but I’m not seeing the point of bringing 2NE1 and talking about their talent, while I don’t feel it. Big Bang, they’re talented. Yes!! I can see it. 2NE1, they need to prove more.

Yeah, I agree. Even as a non fan I could see the power of these amazing 9 girls. They’re talented and persistent and they’ve definately cemented their name in the kpop industry.
I really like them now, I’m not a fan, but I’ve come to appreciate their talent. I hope they continue to shine for years to come and make it big throughout Asia 😀 😀

I don’t agree with this list because SNSD’s music and concept are just a recycled version of what groups like WG, Fin.K.L, S.E.S and Morning Mosume has done years before. And SNSD still hasn’t archieved the hallyu status and influential status that those groups have archieved.

I have nothing against SNSD, I tried many times to like them, but they always fail to impress me. I find their music and concepts not original and also extremelly not appealing for the taste of a girl listener. I feel like it’s impossible to a girl living in the 21st century relate to lyrics that portray girls as submisse types that say: ‘oppa I love you, i’m shy *wink*wink*’, ‘i’ll go down down down’ and ‘tell me your wish’. As a girl, I feel disturbed that girls are being downgraded like that.
Agreed. Although SM himself did say that he’s having SNSD to appeal to the uncle fans, and so I guess we can’t really do anything about the “oppa I love you, i’m shy.”
I totally understand your opinion on them. But who cares if they have a lot of 30-40 year old male fans? They also have a lot of female fans (who are also older), including myself, but the Korean media likes to focus only on the men. Fans are fans, and SM only cares about money. The Pope is Catholic, water is wet, etc.
I can’t find the capacity to hate on them for their songs because ultimately, SM is the one who decides what they wear and what they sing, not the girls. I don’t feel degraded when I listen to their music, and in fact, I think their attitudes and hard work make women seem stronger. They’re a girl group that is very popular, and they can compete with the big boys now. They’re very funny and all around sweethearts, which makes me think they represent women very well. That’s just MY 2 cents though.

Not all their songs are about girls being shy and cute. Of course, many of their songs are love songs but hey, 90% of music is composed of love songs. I don’t think it’s fair to blame SNSD for singing love songs… Just saying. WG’s Nobody, Tell Me, 2DT… are love songs too. Does it mean these are cute songs ? No. SNSD’s RDR, Genie, Destiny… are love songs but not cute songs. I think you don’t know SNSD very well. 🙂 But it’s ok.

I listen to a lot of SNSD’s song because I didn’t think it would be fair to judge them without giving them a chance.
All girl groups have love songs, but girlgroups like WG, 2NE1 and After School portray the love song in a way girls can relate to, they portray girls’ feelings. But SNSD’s love song doesn’t portray girl’s feelings, they portray the feelings that men and boys fantasize and want girls to have. SNSD doesn’t portray girls’s feelings, they portray boy’s fantasies. That’s why it’s hard to relate to SNSD’s songs. ‘RDR’ is their only song that has a more strong concept, but most of their other songs including ‘Genie’ was very downgrading for girls.
I know the girls can do much better! ‘Way To Go’ and ‘Star Star Star’ are good songs that everyone can relate to, but SM Ent wants SNSD’s image to be associate with submissive girls like boys fantasize with songs like ‘Oh’, ‘genie’, ‘kissing you baby’, etc…

And SNSD’s recent songs have been topping many Asian charts (Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Korea, they are crazy popular in Vietnam…) That’s probably the most “Hallyu achievement” that has ever been done from a group that has never done overseas promotions.

They’re topping songs and all I giveyou that, but imho WGs songs has more of a cultural impact compared to snsd’s because the popularity is beyond the charts — ppl actually sing along or use the songs for a lot of purposes.
I’m from the PI and while snsd have this solid place on the charts, majority of the ppl do not really know them like they know WG…or say 2ne1. SNSD is number 1 in korea yes, but i’m not so sure if they really hit the other asian countries like the WGs did.

FinKL, SES and WG set the standards for girl-groups in Korea. FinKL started the sexy trend, SES started the cutesy trend and Wonder Girls started the catchy song+easy-to-follow trend . These girl-groups influenced other girl-groups and in WG’s case also caused impact in kpop music changing the style of kpop music. SNSD is just following the trends started by FinKL, SES and Wonder Girls. SNSD’s music and their concepts haven’t influenced other girl-groups or pop music these other groups I mentioned.
Another thing is that SNSD lacks the universal appeal because they are aimed mostly at boys and men over 30. Yeah SNSD, has a few female fans, but most of their female fans are international fans, in Asia, most of their fanbase is of boys and men (just listen to the cheers when they perform in music concerts and read the comments of asian fans). Compared to KARA, WG, 2NE1, After School and all other female idol groups, SNSD is the one that has the least female fans.
I’m not bashing the SNSD girls and I’m not saying they don’t have potential, but how can general public take them seriously when SM ent promotes them only thinking about horny boys and pedo men? It’s pretty sad and the image and concept they portray with their lyrics is very dowgrading for girls. Yeah all girl-groups have love songs, but SNSD is the only one that have most songs portraying girls as submissive lolitas. ‘RDR’ was probably the only title song of their that didn’t had that concept. ‘Tell me your wish’ is so offensive is you think about it and the hole ‘i’ll do whatever you want boy, tell me your wish’. ‘Gee’ is cute song , but it’s a total copy of WG’s ‘Tell Me’.
I hope SNSD’s fans don’t get to sensitve with what i’m saying. I’m just stating the facts. I’m not bashing the girls, i have nothing against the girls, I just think they could be so much better if SM ent hadn’t promoted them the way they do. Aren’t SNSD supposed to be ‘Girl’s generation’? So why are SM ent promoting them as sex-objects? If I was one of SNSD’s member I’d feel upset, I remember seeying interview with Taeyeon and the youngest member complaining about the concepts of their songs. Don’t remember where the stats are but someone pulled stats from fanclubs and SNSD had a percentage of 60/40 for boys and girls…the MOST evened out fanclub on the list…I mean SUJU had a 90/10 (girl/boy). The whole lyrics thing is a joke to bring up. Lyrics are interrupted however you the listener decides to read them. Lyrics can be as honest or as extreme as you make them. And I’m sorry but what girl/boyband does not write cheesy lyrics about the opposite sex?? KARA and Wondergirls have done it in the past and present too..don’t see why you are singling SNSD out.

This is just another popularity vote imo. SNSD has beeen hitting it big ever since Gee came out. You can’t deny the fact that they’re one of the top girl groups. KARA improved a lot. Wonder Girls are doing well too.
