After 2PM JaeBum left Korea at 6.30pm on 8th September, what is next for 2PM as a 6-member group?
A JYP representative said that there are still discussing about plans for the group. JaeBum will be staying in the States for the time being to sort his feelings out. The good thing is that currently they are not doing promotions and is a resting period before their next album. So it gives the group time to come up with a new concrete team operation plan.
After over 1000 fans sent JaeBum off at the airport on 8th September, fans are fighting back with a petition on Agora online to stop JaeBum from leaving the group. The petitions says, “We can’t send JaeBum off like that” and has already received 25K over support from netizens.
Meanwhile, it was said that JaeBum’s growing affection for Korea after arriving Korea was realised too late by the Korean netizens.
An account posted on the internet says:
“JaeBum had an audition in a wine house called ‘ChinGuYa’ in north Seattle, and had gone to Korea when he was in high school. It was a difficult decision for him to go back to Korea. He was like a ‘banana’ (Asian on the outside, Americanised on the inside) who cannot speak much Korean.”
“Seattle is a city that is different from the other big cities. The community is very small there. Everyone knows everyone else there. And JaeBum’s friends there are like family to him. It must be a difficult time for him to left his family behind and to go to a place which he doesn’t even know anything about, and train as a trainee not knowing when is the end to this path.”
“So he would have the desire to go back to America badly. And for the Americans and locals there they do not use the word GAY by meaning. It is like a code word, but definitely harmless. It is a joke used by young people there.”
“In 2002 during the World Cup, JaeBum has come together with his friends and family at the church in Korea to support for Korea. He was like a real Korean who loves Korea. There is also Koreans in Korea who will say they hate Korea when times are hard for them, isn’t it. And are those people traitors? It is really sad that people label him that. Not talking about this from a point of a fan, but from a mother of a Korean child. I’m writing this for people who are supporting him in Seattle. This friend is just a ‘banana’ who can’t speak Korean well.”

I was totally shocked by this news. Just as I was getting into him and the rest of 2pm, this sh*t happens. Its so blown out of proportion. I can understand the sentiments of the Korean public since what he wrote is really offensive to their sense as a nation and to be written by someone who’s Korean himself, its a double insult. But people make mistakes and the public needs to understand the context when Jay wrote those words. He was lonely and not sure whether his efforts would come into something. Plus he didn’t understand Korean at that time and he felt like a foreigner in Korea despite being Korean himself. Can you imagine how difficult being alone in a foreign place on your own not understanding everyone? I don’t understand those who wrote the suicide petition. What would that solve? Jay has shown remorse and the public censure is enough punishment.
But I’m still under the impression that this break is temporary. At least until the netizens’ violent reaction has died down, Jay won’t be returning to Korea.

though the translation of JaeBeom writing on the fancafe said he resign from 2PM I don’t think JYP Ent just let him be out of teh company listing. I don’t know about their contract as an artist regarding quiting during the designated term of contract but I think resigning from the company which already put a lot of investment for training and promoting this isn’t something that easily accepted by the employer and JaeBeom is part of JYP Ent employee.
I totally understand why JaeBeom quit as a part of 2PM, he don’t want the other member to suffer because of him. a sad thing indeed because 2PM friendship is suffering now. but totally quiting from JYP Ent, I have a big question mark here.

you generally don’t get in trouble for breaching contract if everyone involved is in agreement. so, as long as jyp doesn’t decide he will press charges against it, then jay can do that without landing himself in trouble.
There’s a rumor that JYP let him go… so if the people who made his contract wants him to leave then i don’t think they’ll be pressing charges. Not sure entirely if this is true…

I don’t know how to put my feeling in words, he IS the reason I start to notice 2PM and love them MORE and MORE. Now, he left the group when yesterday I was relieved that JYP said decision of him staying is made. Everything happen too fast that I can barely digest every single of them. “JYP in regards to removing Jaebeom from the group: “Although, we feel very guilty and sorry for all the people who have been disappointed by Park Jaebeom’s past mistakes, I will not be taking him out of the group. Many people have been suggesting ideas of banning Park Jaebeom out of 2PM, but that will never happen. We believe that he has done something wrong, but as a whole, we do not think it is enough to be taking his dreams and goals away from him. This was not a decision made by only the JYPE staff, but it was something all of the fellow 2PM members have agreed to.”
