News came today that the youngest member SunMi of the WonderGirls have decided to go on a hiatus for her music career to pursue an academic career.
This came as shocking as the WonderGirls are currently doing well with their promotions in the States.

this was the most horrible news i have ever read as a wonderful!
Wonderfuls have been waiting patiently for their comeback! Despite so many fierce groups debuting, we remained faithful as wonderfuls. Instead of moaning, we supported them and gave them love so that they can succeed well in the US. But this is the surprise we get? Its a VERY shocking news for wonderfuls around the world. People need to understand our situation. Its so sudden, we can’t except the fact that its really happening.
The hopes and dreams of WG dominating 2010 crushed. I’m very disappointed in Sunmi. She could’ve thought about this before she agreed to actually be a singer. Giving up something that she and the WG have worked hard for is just heartbreaking. She even once cried and said that she always wanted to be the world’s best singer. What happend to that dream? Its never wrong to focus on your studies, but can’t she wait? WG are almost there.
I think, kpop should stop debuting idols at such a young age. This issue just shows the bad effect.
Sorry if my comment was harsh or offensive. I’m just speaking my opinion like the rest of you. I love the WG. but I’m very disappointed.

I love JYP and all, but his artists leave for reasons he isn’t telling us (sure, he’s the boss, he has no liabilities to tell us, but hey!). Maybe it’s internal production and managing. Whatever, I’m just too mad cause my fave girl group won’t be the same now.
i can’t imagine how anyone ANYONE in the kpop industry, would just BACK OUT just b/c they wanted to pursue their studies?? i mean, she obviously knew what she was getting into when she started training! hopefully, she has a better excuse than that.. how could you possibly do that? to wonderfuls? to YOUR fans? to all YOUR hard work? to all of wg’s awards?

I think you sorta answered you own question. She could not bear the stardom it was more then she expected.
We as fans prob only see the bright side of being a idol and it’s fame. Think of all the work training at midnight, constant traveling, always promoting more then 3-4 events a day and still having to practice later at night , being away from family, always have to perfect, maintain your idol image at all times, thats alot for young girl to deal with out of high school.
She was in tears when talking about the ameican tour, right then I think alot of people saw her youth and the toll fame was taking on her.
She had a chance to atleast see what the top was like and I think she found it wasnt what she wanted.
do i blame her for leaving, NO. I support her finding a better life for herself.
I’m not bashing you 🙂 but asking you to see the other side of fame, there’s always a dark side and price to pay for it.
yes i understand that theres a bad more difficult part of fame but i would assume that if it was sunmi’s dream then all that hardship would be worth it… at least… it would be for me…

I honestly believe that there’s something more…it’s not all about studies, gosh! WG has a 5-7 year contract, they know what they’re getting into! I bet SunMi was just not happy with U.S. promos! And wow! JYP! replacement already???!!! Gosh!!!
